Day 8Saying our goodbyes to Grandpa and Grandma.

Thanks for having us, Ohio.

Hello, Indiana. We opted to take I-70 home, so after Indianapolis we were forging new territory. We had allocated two days for a journey home and this route was slightly shorter. Of course is was plagued by that are we home yet, are we home yet, are we home yet, kind of feel.

The stadium where the Indianapolis Colts play.

A lovely Indiana rest stop.

St. Louis. We hit really bad traffic going through St. Louis. It was down to one lane going over the bridge. Luckily we had gassed up and picked up lunch to take to my Cousin Adam's condo prior to the slow down.

Busch Stadium where the St. Louis Cardinals play.

My cousin Adam is finishing up Medical School at Washington University.

We were relieved to finally make it to Adam's so we could get a little lunch break. The boys loved his door stopper. Reid: "Look, Ma. You forgot to take this one away from us!"

Reid stretching his legs.

Adam and
Aiden. Say that five times fast.

The boys could crawl around any where their little hearts' desired. And they chose to sit in their seats again.

Me and Cousin Adam. My Aunt Marita hosted two graduation parties in the spring of 2000. Mine from Iowa State and Adam's from high school. Now Adam's on his way to finishing an MD-PhD from Wash U. He did a lot of research with monkeys, so spending time with our little guys was probably pretty familiar.

On our way back to the interstate we drove by the beautiful Wash. U campus.

Missouri. Not my favorite part of the trip, although it did afford me the opportunity to take a picture of a horse and buggy. The drivers from St. Louis to Columbia were the worst of all the legs I drove on the trip.

Finally heading out of Missouri as we hit Kansas City. It was miserably hot and humid. Our car thermometer reached 102'. I will say that the sun set was pretty.

Somewhere after Kansas City we hit mile #2000.

Are we there yet?

Are we there yet?

Entering the Kansas turnpike from somewhere west of Kansas City to Topeka.

Reid sacked out.
Aiden enjoyed some reading time.
Day 9Morning in Topeka, after a not so great night. The boys had a hard time settling down and we couldn't employ our usual cry it out technique in a hotel. Thankfully, we all finally got some rest.
The Kansas rest areas were some of the worst I've seen. The temps were again in the high 90's low 100's and it was really disappointing to have no air-conditioned lobby to hang out in and NO CHANGING TABLES.
We pressed on, the boys slept quite a bit, and tolerated the 100th showing of a Baby Einstein DVD as we made it back to the metro Denver area. We arrived home some time after 5. It was nice to be able to eat at home and let the boys run around after two days of being cooped up in their car seats.
All in all, they did a great job and we had a wonderful trip. It was so great to be able to see so many friends and family members. Grand total mileage: 2594.7!
