Ohio Road Trip - Day 3
Our plan was to wake up early on Monday morning and take off for Ohio. Eric and I tried to pack up as much as possible on Sunday night so we could hit the road. However, Mother Nature put on a spectacular show in the middle of the night, which woke me and Eric up from much needed deep sleeps. Strong winds sounded like a train barrelling down on the house. Tons of thunder and lightening. It was pretty fierce. Luckily, the boys slept through it all. We eventually fell back asleep, but it seemed like only a few seconds passed before Eric's alarm sounded. I fell back asleep after Eric's alarm went off (I'm a snooze button kind of girl) and he decided to let me sleep in later than we had planned. Probably a good idea since we had another long day of driving ahead of us. When I finally did wake up, I felt bad about delaying our departure, so I scurried about getting ready to go.

Marita used to let me sit in this same spot and help her make cookies. I was pretty disappointed when I grew too old to sit there. I'm sure Reid and Aiden will be happy to take up the post in the future.
Marita entertained the boys while Eric and I finished packing the van.

Getting rid of the farm fly specs.
Aiden.
Reid.
We saw a lot of storm damage in Huxley as we drove out of town.
More downed trees, plus I thought I should include the price of gas for history's sake.
This road was completely closed because there was so much damage. Luckily we were heading left at this intersection.
A little hard to tell- lots of corn flattened down to the ground.
Downed power lines along I-35 as we headed south to Des Moines.
Both boys were tuckered out from their farm adventures.

Fast forward through eastern Iowa, Illinois, and now we have Indiana. I got excited to see a series of bill boards in eastern Indiana...
featuring REID Hospital!
Just as we made it to the Ohio border we hit the bad storm again and ended up driving through very heavy rain. I pulled up the weather radar on my phone and could tell we could quickly get through the worst of it if we just kept going.
Another long day of driving, but we made it. 1356 miles into our road trip. Welcome to Ohio!
