A Favorite Pastime - Reading

My friend Melinda recently posted Madeline's favorite books which made me realize that would be a good topic around here. The boys really enjoy being read to and flipping through books on their own. While we were in Thermopolis, Aiden started bringing books over to me to read. Now Reid is doing the same thing. It's pretty cute to see them sort through our two book bins and then make the effort to crawl over to us with a book in hand. Aiden tends to sit back and take it all in. Probably teaching himself to read. Reid enjoys turning the pages. Good thing we have most of these books memorized, because most of the time he's so excited to turn the page, we barely have time to get through all of the words.

Some of our favorites include several by Sandra Boynton. Planes. My Daddy Love Me. Rocky Mountain Babies. Books which have little sliding windows or flaps which open to reveal more are popular. Many, many more. There are so many good children's books.

I hope we can continue to develop their passion for reading. So many of my students brag about how they haven't read a book in years and solely rely on Spark Notes, which is the 21st century, online version of Cliffs Notes.

Pajama Time
One of the board books that we've been reading to the boys for a very long time. You can see once the boys got their hands on it, it quickly became well loved and beat up.

I Love You Through and Through
This page reminds me of our friends Kalle and Tony and their daughter Emerson who recently emptied out an entire tube of toothpaste. I like this book because it's a good reminder that even though we go through frustrating times with everyone in our lives, we love each other no matter what.

Perfect Piggies
This page reminds me of my brother. Always cool and does an excellent duck voice.

A Cuddle for Little Duck
My favorite two pictures of this book. Reminds me of my two little guys playing together and giggling at each other. I also like her other book that we have, My Precious Little Bear. The illustrations are fantastic.

Keri - Thanks for the book recommendations. My cousin and his wife just had a baby on Sunday and I love giving board books - especially since their registry was completely fulfilled. I will be looking for a few of these tomorrow at Borders!
