If the Hat Fits and Some Calculations

The word from Minnesota is that the hat is a little big, which is perfect. Hopefully, it will fit throughout the winter.

(Don't tell Eva, but I'm already working on a bigger (different style) hat for her, just in case her noggin grows too much this winter. There's a good a possibility of that happening, as she's already sending out emails. This clearly demonstrates what a genius she is. The hat is almost done; pictures to follow.)

I hoping that next week I'll find out how much has been donated to my calculator fund. Thanks again to all who contributed. Click here if you need a reminder of how to donate. Don't forget that your employer might be willing to match your funds.

To get a better idea of what the Nspire calculators can do, I thought I would share an activity that I put together tonight to use in class tomorrow. My Algebra 3 students are taking a quiz on Thursday, so these are some quiz review problems they'll work on in class tomorrow. They have a little riddle to answer which uses the letter answers from the eight different problems. The riddle says "What do farmers use to do math?" I'll give the answer in a couple of days, in case you want to try solving these problems yourself. Plus, I have Back to School Night tomorrow and then Eric leaves town, so it will probably be a couple of days before I can return to the ol' blog.

Good luck!

(FYI: When I insert questions into a document, I can choose to have the answers revealed so that the students can do a self-check. Or, in this case, I set these questions to exam mode, so they won't know if they're correct until they solve the riddle.)

(Post Edit: #5 has an error, which I fixed for my students. The answer is T if you're playing at home.)

Let the calculating begin!
