Learning to brush their teeth. They actually like this activity, yet scream their lungs out when we try to clean their faces with a washcloth.
Aiden:
Reid:
Love Aiden's grin in this one. They spend a ton of time cruising around the living room.
Reid has quickly mastered steering the cruisers in the correct direction before impact with furniture is made.
Alert! Potential head-on collision.
No problem. What were you worrying about, Mama?
More cruising, but they traded cruisers. This is much preferable to when they decide to fight over the same one.
Playing with a birthday balloon from two months ago. We still have the Happy Birthday banner in the front living room, which makes me grin every time I see it.
Checking out their suitcase before we went to Wyoming. I was worried about how high up they were and kept telling them to be careful. They were doing a lot of chattering. In hindsight, I think they were discussing their plans to scale the coffee table and really give me something to worry about.
Reid loves helping us fold laundry. I was scrambling to get it put away as quickly as my dad was folding it. Reid had other plans.
In the mean time, Aiden was cruising.
For Father's Day, I wrote a nice note to Eric from the boys and taped it to the coffee table. My plan was to have the boys scribble on it with crayons. Instead, they screamed and cried because I wouldn't let them EAT the crayons. Good thing they were non-toxic.
Traffic jam. Reid wanted to get through so he took the direct route- over Aiden. These two are usually pretty good buddies. It's pretty rare for them to be playing more than a couple of feet apart from each other.
Aiden created this silly look when he grabbed his pants just as Eric was picking him up off of the changing table.
Reid's on the verge of walking without any help from the cruiser or us.
A different day, Reid is once again helping with laundry.
After Reid and I finished folding the laundry, I was in the kitchen doing the dishes. Suddenly, I heard Reid crying and went to find out what happened. Aiden had bit Reid! He only has four teeth that have completely popped through, but they left some pretty bad marks. I calmed Reid down and "scolded" Aiden, who of course just grinned at me. (I'm not quite sure how to discipline an almost 14-month old, but I really don't want to go down the spanking route and I really don't think they understand cause and effect at this point. Darn, I was hoping to avoid this part of parenting.) Five minutes later, Reid cried out again. This time, Sharky took a chomp out of Reid's other arm. Poor, Reid. It's tough to be your brother's teething target. This was also the same day Aiden turned into a mountain goat and scaled the coffee table. All of these events happened within the first eleven hours Eric had been gone on his latest trip. I think I sprouted 50 more gray hairs that day.
(Post Edit: In the interest of full disclosure, Aiden probably inherited his appalling behavior from me. It's amazing I wasn't expelled from preschool as my two favorite activities were listening to Mrs. Bailey play a mini harpsichord and biting/pinching the boy who sat next to me.)
The victim and the teeth marks:
Sharky:
Luckily, Reid quickly recovered and has managed to avoid being attacked since that day.
Playing.
Supervising Grandpa while he retrieved some toys from underneath the end table, which Aiden has now decided will be his next climbing target. I keep telling Eric that we're going to have to remove all of the furniture from the living room before too long.
Aiden trying to figure out how to get past the gate.
Recruiting Reid to help.
In May, they were successful with a prison break while my mom was in the powder room. They've been dreaming of repeating that feat ever since.
