Five of my cousins grew up on a farm, so I've had a lot of exposure to life on the farm through the years. I too participated in 4-H, although I stuck to cooking and sewing. My venture into animal husbandry happened in college when I took an Animal Science course at Iowa State taught by my Uncle Gene. I have found that the most useful skill I have acquired is the herding technique. Especially when I'm tired and trying to get my mom through a store a little more quickly. Very handy.
Cousin Julie (Story County Pork Queen) has demonstrated her superb skills in the pig pen this week at the county fair. Nicely done!

(Here are how the piggies looked at the end of May when I was visiting the farm. Amazing how fast they grew- some 200-250 pounds in the last 100 days!)
