Sippy Cups, Shearing, Scavenging, Sleeping, and September

Today I switched the boys to different sippy cups. Their original ones had rubberized lids which the boys were gnawing through. These new ones are hard plastic. When I set them on their trays this morning, both boys just stared at them in complete confusion. I held them up to their mouths and told them that they could drink the milk, but they would have none of that. I just left them on their trays and continued with the cereal and yogurt. About half-way through Aiden grabbed his and started guzzling. I made a huge deal about what a good job he was doing. Reid quickly followed suit. After lots of praise was thrown around, the boys decided they were ok to use. See, peer pressure can be a good thing.

There is one major disadvantage to these new cups: no handles. So now it's harder to get the cups in the circles on their trays. I unhooked the upper shoulder straps which made it easier for them to reach forward and get the cups closer to the circles. It also made it easier for them to wiggle around. They both spent quite a bit of supper time trying to face backwards in their high chairs. Just like Uncle David used to do.

Haircutting time again. Lots of squirming and "Uh, Uh, UHHHHH!", but I quickly got my little sheep sheared for another few weeks.

Some photos from supper at Grandpa and Grandma's house on Friday. Reid latched on to a couple of Grandma's baskets while Aiden enjoyed playing with their telephone. Most of the time, he pulled up their voicemail. The next day, we found out that he had also managed to call my mom's friend Marilyn. She has many grandkids, so it sounds like getting phantom phone calls is nothing new.

One nap versus two. Lately we've been discussing whether the boys should be switching to a one-nap schedule. I really didn't think Aiden was ready for it, but some days Reid only takes one nap. Yesterday morning, I ran a ton of errands with the boys. They did a great job hanging in there. Especially when I broke out the stash of Cheerios from my purse. We arrived home too late for a morning nap, which I knew was probably going to happen. I put them down for their afternoon nap earlier than usual, which meant they woke up earlier, and were completely out of sorts by the time I put them to bed. Today they were still more prone to meltdowns than usual. After my one day experiment, I'm voting for a two-nap schedule for the time being.

Finally, a blast from the past. A few photos from September, 2010.

The old pictures remind me, we need to see the boys in more IState gear. If you need a source near Ames let me know.
