500 Days Old

A couple of weeks ago I was poking around on Wolfram|Alpha and put in the boys' birth date. I was surprised to realize we were approaching 500 days since they were born. I tucked that tidbit away and told myself to try to remember to blog on that day. So, here we are. 500 days since my little babies were born! Approximately 7,000 diapers later. 500 loads of laundry. 499 days of not sleeping in, but being greeted by two of the cutest little guys in the world. (I'll admit it was pretty awesome getting to sleep in when we celebrated our anniversary in Colorado Springs.)

Here's what we've been up to this weekend.

We went over to Grandpa and Grandma's for supper. We had to break out a great wall to keep the boys from wandering into the kitchen while Grandma was cooking. It had been a while since we had been to their house. The boys, with all their new-found mobility, enjoyed exploring every nook and cranny.

Eric and I both try to give the boys lots of time to run around in the upstairs hallway. Usually Reid takes the lead and Aiden manages to stay pretty close behind. In a single session, they'll run between our bedroom door and their nursery about 500 times. They're pretty sweaty and worn out by the time they're done.

Saying goodbye to Grandpa. Reid taking advantage of his height advantage to honk Grandpa's nose.

And doing a little guy talk.

And one last honk.

Our favorite book-reading position. I sit on the floor while the boys sit on my lap. Sometimes I'll reach for the next book and sometimes they'll take turns getting up and bringing me a book. They're pretty good about taking turns with their picks.

Broke out the colder weather gear this weekend when I took the boys for a run. It was in the 50s/60s when we ran on Saturday and Sunday. I loved it. I'm aiming to run a half marathon in November, so I've been working on increasing my distance. We did one-hour runs on both days. I'm lucky the boys enjoy it so much. We usually end our run with a stop by Grandpa and Grandma's house to say hi. Or suck our thumbs and give sly grins.

If they can't play on the couch, might as well pull the pillows off of the couch to play with instead.

Getting taller and taller means more to see outside.

I'm working on finishing the second hat for niece Eva. This one is a little bigger than the other hat. I was thinking of making a couple for the boys, so I tried it on them to see which pattern size I should use. This ended up being pretty entertaining. Neither wanted the hat on at first, but in the end they were both begging for Grandma to help them put it on.

Eventually, I had to take the hat away to make sure it didn't get stretched out. Reid decided playing IN the toy basket would be a good idea.

I was determined to get supper prepared and in the oven while the boys were still awake after lunch today. I wanted to be able to put my feet up when I put them down for their afternoon nap. They were ok with me being in the kitchen for about 5 minutes and then they started screaming and sobbing that I was on the other side of the gate. Here's what happened when I let them into the kitchen. I'm sure none of you will be surprised to find out that Eric and I spent tonight cleaning out the pantry and reorganizing. (Yes, Eric was lucky enough to arrive home tonight just in time to help me.) It was a job that needed to be done, so I wasn't too upset that the boys went for it. We were a little surprised by the winner of the oldest item: a box of mac and cheese from 2002. That box made it through a move from my apartment to the condo, getting married to Eric, moving to our house, having twins, until today. We love mac and cheese, so I have no idea how it managed to stay hidden all these years.

The aftermath.

Reid wanting a second chance to create some more mess.

Luckily, Grandpa and Grandma were able to tame my two little monkeys when they came over for supper after naptime. It gave me enough time to finish supper and put everything back in the cupboards until we tackled sorting through it after the boys went to bed.

Finished off the long weekend with bath night. Nothing like the comfort of a thumb.

Love Aiden's big grin in this one.

I can't wait to see what the next 500 days have in store for us!
