Last April, the center where the boys were going to preschool announced it was closing. The local engineering company had pulled its sponsorship which hurt the bottom line. I quickly scrambled to research other places because I had to find two spots in the same class. I found a new school and put down a deposit. A few days later, it was announced that the former school was going to stay open after all, partially due to the fact that the engineering company was closing a plant in another state and many families would be moving into our area. We decided to stay put in the neighborhood school after all. The boys stayed home with me during June and July and started back to school in August when I went back to school. The boys' pre-k class was combined with the school aged kids who hadn't started back yet or were not at school because the other students were doing their reading tests. We figured they would settle back into the pre-k curriculum in September, but the shuffling continued. We decided to see if the other school still had any spots. They did and we made the move at the beginning of October. It's been a great move and the boys are really happy and thriving at their new school. I feel bad that their old school didn't bounce back from the threat of closing. Their preschool teacher last year was awesome and I hope they can build up their enrollment again.
One of the things I love about the new school is that we receive emails every day with a summary of the days' activities and pictures of Aiden and Reid.
First, some pictures I've taken.
Their favorite center with the iPads. Their teacher, Ms. Jenny, says all the kids love iPads, which should not shock any of you out there.
I was so impressed how quickly there were signs and items with the boys' names. They were great at welcoming A & R into the class right away.
Each day they start with three pennies. If they make it to five pennies, they get a sticker at the end of the day.
On Fridays they get to pick something out of the treasure box.
Still love seeing how they write their names.
The following are some pictures from the daily emails.
Today I had parent teachers conferences with Ms. Jenny. Because this is my blog, I get to brag.
From Reid's report:
"We are very happy that Reid has joined our room. Reid is very considerate, very kind, and very well spoken. Reid had wonderful manners and is always respectful to his peers and teachers. Reid is able to recognize every uppercase and lowercase letter, along with 20 of the letter sounds. He can write his name, draw a full human figure, and create complex patterns on his own. He also has a wonderful sense of numbers and rhyming. Reid enjoys raising his hand during class discussions. He is a confident learner. Outside, Reid is always wanting to show the teachers his basketball skills. We have absolutely loved getting to know Reid. He's a real sweetheart and we're lucky to have him as a student."
From Aiden's report:
"Aiden is a very sweet little boy and we are very happy that he joined our room. He is very polite and a wonderful listener. Aiden really enjoys playing the learning games in the iPad and exploring in our sensory table. Aiden is a very bright child. He has a great understanding of rhyming, number recognition, and patterns. He knows his letters very well and 16 of the sounds that the letters make. We are working with Aiden on writing his first name and drawing a full human figure. Outside, Aiden really enjoys kicking the soccer ball with his brother and classmates. Aiden enjoys learning and we are looking forward to watching him excel this year."
Don't worry. They can't be angels all the time, but I am glad they know it's important to be good at school.
