October Round Up

We spent a quite a bit of our Wii time playing Mario Bros this summer, so I asked the boys if they would be interested in being Mario and Luigi for Halloween. Right away Reid said he wanted to be Luigi. Aiden said he didn't want to be Mario, which was fine. They don't have to match. He then told me he wanted to be a flower. I thought was a pretty random answer until he explained that he wanted to be the flower in the Mario Bros game with no eyes and lots of teeth. I knew exactly what he was talking about - the Pirhana Plant that comes up out of the pipes. I thought that was actually a pretty clever choice. Since I'm still working the craziest hours of my career and already knew I had three after-school meetings the week of Halloween, I figured I better start on their costumes early this year. As always, hoodies and felt were involved...

We took a visit to the Pumpkin Festival at the neighboring Botanic Gardens at Chatfied.

This was the most beautiful fall I can remember. The leaves were on the trees for a long time, because we didn't have a snow storm or crazy winds knocking them off too early. Here the boys are watching the lawn being aerated.

Eric sent me this picture when I was at school. The boys had lots of opportunity to jump in leaves this fall.

I finished the costumes a couple of weeks early, which ended up being good because they were invited to a Halloween party on the 18th.

We switched schools at the beginning of October, which deserves its own post. We love their new school and the boys are really thriving. Instead of having the students dress up on Halloween, they hold a Fall Festival the weekend before. I think that's a good idea, instead of making the teachers put the costumes on at school. They had different crafts set up in the classrooms and then finished with a parade around the parking lot.

We had great weather on Halloween night and Eric was successfully able to bid off so he could be home.
