Teaching Odds and Ends

Just finished the second evening of parent-teacher conferences. Yesterday we went from 4-8 p.m.- I was pretty busy for the first couple of hours, which made the time go by much faster. This evening we held conferences from 3-6 p.m. I'm not really a huge fan of conferences- I'm not sure you would find many teachers who are. In this age of computers, parents can log in and check attendance and grades, or send emails anytime they want. Luckily, the two evenings went well. I really enjoy when I have the chance to catch up with parents whose kids I've taught before. I don't enjoy spending seven hours in a gym; especially when no sports are involved.
In other exciting news, I have two "Calculator Caddies" to hold my classroom set of graphing calculators. It will be much easier to keep track of them now. I had to re-number the second caddy, which I did with good old puff paint. I think the last time I used puff paint was when I decorated matching Christmas shirts for me and Julie, when Julie was about 8 months old. I'll have to see if my mom or Marita can find a picture of that. I'm pretty sure I was sporting braces AND a perm! Ah, junior high.

(The book title in the top cartoon says "All I really needed to know I learned in Advanced Statistical Analysis.)

You're right, Janina. At my school, they tend to refer to all female teachers as "Ms." I'm not quite sure why- I suppose it's the easiest thing to do. My students tend to call me "Mrs. Brusven" although there is still the ocasional "Miss Starrs".
