As Kenny Rogers Would Say...

You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, and know when to run.
I should be running full speed away from my kitchen right now.
First, I tried canning peaches. We've had some pretty good peaches trickling into the grocery stores. I had been thinking about trying canning; the store's clever display sucked me in. I bought all of the supplies thinking about how lucky we would be to enjoy yummy summer peaches in the middle of the winter.

Well, six pounds of peaches yielded 3 pints!!! That's it. I couldn't get the skin off the peaches, so I ended up losing way more meat than I should have. Boiling water for sterilizing jars, for sterilizing the lids, for cooking the peaches, and for sealing the jars took a long time! I thought I found some good directions and hints online. At least if I decide to try it again, I'll have a better idea of how to juggle my time.
My second kitchen disaster of the day- cupcakes. If you're like me, cupcakes sound innocent enough. There was an article in the Denver Post this week about cupcake bakeries around Denver. They also included some recipes for cupcakes and frosting. I made chocolate cupcakes which ended up being dry. The butter-cream frosting tasted like I used shortening and took an hour to make. Bleh. I'm very disappointed in these recipes. They didn't come from the bakeries so I'm not sure where the Post dug them up. Double bleh!

Eric may not want to step foot in our kitchen anytime soon as well. Between canning, supper, and cupcakes, I think I managed to use every item in our kitchen. He spent a good hour and a half doing the dishes while I made the frosting. I have a good husband (who is probably hoping he gets called out for a trip tomorrow).
